John was born on March 4, 1952 one of six children born to Wayne and Lila (Ling) Blood in Pocatello, Idaho and the family moved to Salmon when he was just a baby. He grew up in Salmon where he learned to fish and hunt which was a pastime he continued throughout his life. During his high school years he was on the debate team and was always very successful in his endeavors. He went to work as a miner with his father and brother Ricky in Idaho, Arizona and Colorado while still keeping Salmon as his home. He was united in marriage to Kathy Lund and two boys were born to this union: John Jr. and Michael Blood. In 1995, a daughter Stormie was born to John and Karen Meyers. He worked ten years for Champion International. John was later married to his lifelong friend Debra Rae Evans on March 10, 1998 in Elko, Nevada and together they raised their children: Stormie, Charlie, Laura, Jackie and Jamie. John worked at Lemhi Sanitation from 1999 until just a few months ago when he was too ill to work. He loved being the “Garbage Man” and took great pride in his work. John was an avid outdoorsman, trapping the Lemhi and down river for many years. He was a member of the National Trappers Association. He tanned many beautiful bobcats and beavers over the years. His love for hunting and fishing was also handed down to some of the children and his grandchildren whom he taught the many secrets of how to fish. Legend says he could even catch a fish in a mud hole. His children and grandchildren were very special to him and was often the one they would call when they were in trouble and needed rescuing. He was one of those guys that would do anything for you. In March, John and Deb would go to Elko for their anniversary. They often went to Northern Idaho to pick blackberries and made everything from jam to wine. He loved to junk copper, garden and cook together with family for events.
