James Meredith Darlington

U.S. Veteran

James “Peewag” Meredith Darlington, Sr., 83, of Charles Town, WV passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA.

Born July 6, 1930 in Charles Town, WV, he was the son of the late Oscar Darlington and Grace Painter Darlington.

He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War.

James was a life time member of Jackson Perks Post No. 71 of the American Legion of Charles Town, WV and the VFW Post No. 9760 of Berryville, VA.

James was an avid gardener, woodworker and loved to go to yard sales. He loved the WV Mountaineers and was a great fan of the Cincinnati Bengals. He was very proud of his house decorations at Christmas and people came from miles around to see them.

He is survived by two sons, James Darlington, Jr. and wife, Doris of Stephens City, VA; Ray Darlington and wife, Donna of Halltown, WV; his companion of 32 years, JoAnne Cruz of Charles Town, WV; four daughters, Trisha Arana and husband, Abel of Kearneysville, WV; Alisha Little and husband, David of Inwood, WV; Joy Grey and husband Jason of Charles Town, WV and Robin Rickard of Charles Town, WV; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oscar Darlington, Jr. and Pat Darlington and two sisters, Marie Frank and Virginia Wilt.

Services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry, WV with visitation two hours prior to the service.

Interment will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg, WV.

Pallbearers will be K.C. Carlisle, David Little, Adam Darlington, Jason Darlington, Brad Riley, Jason Grey, Abel Arana and Mark Meadows.
