Kenneth T. Gist, 88, of Wellsburg died September 15, 2013.

He was a graduate of Wellsburg High School, West Liberty State College, and New York University. He was Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Communication Disorders, Southern Connecticut University. He was elected to leadership positions and received honors from a number of national and state (Connecticut and West Virginia) professional speech, language and hearing associations. University scholarships have been established in his name for speech and language students in Connecticut and West Virginia. When he retired from the University, he returned to Wellsburg where he worked part-time as a speech-language pathologist for several local agencies and facilities.

He was an ordained Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents George R. Gist, Sr. and Gladys Kimmins Gist, two brothers George R. Gist, Jr. and Howard Gist, and long-time partner Ralph Hamel.

He is survived by sister Madelon Reeves, nieces Sharleen Gist Platt and Cheryl Reeves, and nephew David Reeves.

A private memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the West Virginia Speech and Hearing Association, at Brian Reed, 2103 36th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26104.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mullenbach Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV.
