Loving Husband, Devoted Father & Grandfather
Alfred E. Giuditta, Jr., 86, of 91 Park Road passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on Sunday, September 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Waterbury, CT son of Alfred and Anna (DiMaria). He was a devoted and loving husband, grandfather and father-in-law. He and his wife, Yolanda were blessed, having 61 years of a wonderful marriage and four children, Stephen, his wife Terri; Robert; Susan, her husband Mark Sheehy and Christopher. Al was always ready to tell everyone how happy he was to have five granddaughters: Katie Giuditta, Holly Giuditta, Samantha and Natalie Sheehy and Aubrey Giuditta.
Al attended Waterbury Schools, and during World War II, enlisted in the Navy. He was a Gunner’s Mate on the U.S.S. Shakori in Cuba. When he returned home, he attended and graduated Post College with a business degree.
Al delivered mail during holidays and decided he would like to continue as a mail carrier rather than working indoors. He was employed at the Post Office for 40 years, retiring 24 years ago. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Parish for 53 years and participated in their stewardship program for the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter. He was a member of the VFW Post 7330.
Al looked forward and loved spending time with his family and seeing friends, always with a smile on his face. He enjoyed traveling throughout New England and his trips to Florida. He loved music from the Big Band era to Pavarotti and Bocelli.
Al was predeceased by his brother Nicholas Giuditta and four sisters, Josephine Anderson, Millie Coccio, Sylvia Daly and Annette “Honey” Guglielmo. He leaves seven dear nieces and three nephews. He is predeceased by his niece, Joanne Grieder. Al was very close to all of his nieces and nephews and loved them dearly.
Arrangements: Funeral will be held Friday, 9:00 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass at 10:00 a.m. Entombment with Full Military Honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
