Rhoda E. Caswell, 88, of Cairo died Saturday, September 14, 2013, at the Country House in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at the Cairo United Methodist Church. The Rev. Melanie Adams will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Crete, Nebraska at 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cairo United Methodist Church.
Memorials are suggested to the church.

Rhoda Elizabeth Caswell was born June 27, 1925, at Albion, Nebraska to Lee Lewis and Rosetta Louise (Hilgen) Hallstead.
When she was five years of age her family moved from Albion and Rhoda grew up and attended school in several different communities, including York, Norfolk, North Platte, and Lincoln. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943, and continued her education at the University of Nebraska School of Nursing. At the end of her training she joined the Cadet Nurse Corps and worked a short time as a visiting nurse in New Haven, CN.
Rhoda married Dr. Sherwood Larson on October 11, 1946, at Lincoln, Nebraska. Their first home was in New Haven, Conn. Following that, they lived in Chicago IL, Lafayette, IN, Ft. Bragg, N.C, Duluth, MN, Ogallala, and Crete, NE. Dr. Larson died in July of 1968. Rhoda moved to Lincoln, and later Ogallala, NE. She married Casey Caswell on September 30, 1978, at Cairo, Nebraska, where the couple made their home. She moved to Country House Residence in April, 2013.
Rhoda’s nursing career included working at Chicago Children’s Hospital, and at a tuberculosis sanitarium. She taught Family Life and Child Development at Purdue University, and worked as an office nurse for Sherwood. She later served as the Director of Nursing at Crete Municipal Hospital, Director of In-service Education and Staff Development at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln, and Director of Nursing at Ogallala Community Hospital. She also worked for St. Francis Medical Center as a Home Health nurse.
Following her retirement in 1993, she worked as a dealer in Heartland Antiques.
She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church, the American Nurse’s Association, University of Nebraska School of Nursing Alumni Association, P.E.O. Sisterhood, and the North Platte High School Alumni Association.
She is survived by her husband, Casey Caswell of Cairo; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Dr. Jim Plate of Ogallala, NE; three step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Teresa Caswell of Eaton, CO, Barbara and Joel Engdahl of Ogallala, NE and Janis and Tim Wiens of Denver, CO; and one step-son, Douglas Caswell of Onalaska, WA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Sherwood Larson.
