Mrs. Monica F. Sicken, 97, a lifelong resident of Marine City, entered Eternal Life on Saturday, September 14, 2013. She was born March 26, 1916 in Marine City to the late Frank & Frances (Roll) Kinzel. Monica graduated from Holy Cross High School and continued her education at Mary Groove College and entered into the IHM convent. She left the cloistered life to take care of her father. She married Aloysius Sicken on January 14, 1950 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on September 22, 1995. Monica was active in her church community. She was the church organist for many years, sang in the choir, taught school, and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. Mrs. Sicken was devoted to her family and extended that love to many foster children she helped. She is survived by her daughters, Joan (J. Christopher) McCue of Marine City and Marlene (Gary) Herbek of Brighton; five grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) Burman, Jeff McCue, Scott (Crystal) McCue, and Brent and Aaron Herbek; three great grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden, Samantha. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard G. Sicken in 1967. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am in Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Bower-Rose Funeral Home, Marine City and from 10:30 am until the time of Funeral Mass at church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Marine City. Memorials may be made to help fight breast cancer to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
