Leon Varley “Buster” Dulion, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2013 following an extended illness.

Leon was born to Mr. and Mrs. Leon Varley Dulion (Violette Rothschild) in Birmingham, Alabama on April 26, 1931. At an early age his family moved to Pensacola where they would make their home and where Leon would raise his family. He attended Georgia Military Academy, St. Michael Catholic School and was a member of the Pensacola Catholic High School Class of 1950. In 1954 Leon received his bachelor’s degree from The University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation he served in the United States Army. In 1957 Leon became President of his family’s mechanical contracting firm, Mason and Dulion. He remained an instrumental part of the mechanical contracting industry until his retirement from M&D Mechanical Contracting. Testaments to his skill and passion for his trade can be found in projects located across the Southeast.

During his lifetime Leon served on the Board of Directors of West Florida Bank; on the Board of Directors of Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation; as a member of the Fiesta of Five Flags Board of Governors; as well as a multitude of leadership and support roles in various church, community, and professional organizations. Leon was active for many years in the Pensacola Downtown Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. After retirement he became a tireless volunteer for the Catholic Church serving as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist in more than 15 area retirement and nursing homes, as a member of the St. Stephen Catholic Church Legion of Mary, and as a CCD Catechist at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church on Pensacola Beach.

Buster enjoyed the love of music and dancing and was a ferocious reader.

Leon is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Barbara, and their four children – Leon Varley Dulion, III (Nell) of Pensacola, Florida, Denise Marie Dulion of Charleston, South Carolina, Jeanne’ Dulion Thorn (John) of Highpoint, North Carolina, Michael Mayne Dulion (Amy) of Roswell, Georgia and the six grandchildren who he adored – Nandi Baker Thorn, Bryan Andrew Dulion, Carson Mayne Thorne, Kevin Matthew Dulion, Anna Grace Dulion, and Cooper Warren Dulion. He is also survived by his adoring sister, Dolores Dulion Rogers of Birmingham, Alabama as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
