Sophia Lucille Sims, age 87, of Warsaw, formerly of Moberly, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. She was born on August 2, 1926 in Boone County, Missouri the daughter of Aubrey and Cecil (South) Long.
She grew up near Harrisburg and attended school there and then graduated from high school in Jefferson City. On June 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Chalmer L. Sims in Fayette, Missouri. They made their home in Moberly for forty-two years, retiring to Warsaw in 1990.
She was a member of the Women’s Lodge of the Brotherhood of Locomotive, Fireman and Engineers, the Anchor Club and the First Christian Church of Moberly, the Warsaw Christian Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. For the past several years she worked tirelessly for the Benton County Christmas for Kids and spent the entire year working to prepare for that event. Her love and compassion allowed her to touch many lives. She was a woman of strong faith who worked diligently to serve her Lord. Her love for her family was infinite.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Chalmer L. Sims, one brother Charley Lee Long and a sister, Virginia Louise Little.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Thoren, and her husband Richard, of Trophy Club, Texas and Kris Ellen Burnett, and her husband Leland, of Warsaw, Missouri, three grandchildren, Tara Burnett, of Boulder, Colorado, Cassie Thoren, of Fate, Texas and Sabrina Simmons, and her husband Joey, of Boonville, Missouri, two great grandchildren, Grace Ellen and Grant Leo Simmons, two sister-in-laws; Zelda Caudill, of Ogden, Utah and Adele Beever, of Columbia, Missouri and a brother-in-law, Delmar Sims, and his wife Delores, of Independence, Missouri.
Funeral Services for Lucille Sims will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 13, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Harrisburg, Missouri. Visitation will be held Thursday evening September 12, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Reser Funeral Home, in Warsaw. Burial will be in the Harrisburg Cemetery, in Harrisburg, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warsaw Christian Church or the Benton County Christmas for Kids c/o the Reser Funeral Home.
