Merle Dean Everett Charles, 87, of Pea Ridge, died Wednesday, September 4, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers. He was born January 20, 1926, at Goodland, Kansas, to Cecil Everett Charles and Esther Irene Steele Charles. He was a WWII veteran of the US Marines serving in Okinawa. He grew up on a farm in eastern Colorado and was a cattle rancher. He served as Sheriff for Sieber, Colorado for a time before moving to Arkansas. He was a long haul trucker and enjoyed leather tool working, had a small engine repair business, restored antique farm equipment, and woodworking. He was a member of Catalyst Church in Bentonville and is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Peggy Charles in 2002; one daughter, Regina Lynn Price; two brothers, Duane Charles and Delmar Charles; and two sisters, Josephine Shaw and Irene Travis. Survivors are one daughter, Loral Reeves of Corte Murieta, California; three grandchildren, Chari Wheeler, Charles Reeves, and Yancey Price; one sister, Joyce Saffer and husband Glen of Flagler, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Visitation is set for Sunday, September 8, 1-3:00 at Sisco Funeral Home in Pea Ridge with service following at 3:00. Burial will be at Pea Ridge Cemetery.
