Irene Escandon Echeveste, Lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on August 24, 2013. Born September 19, 1942 Mesa, AZ to Tony M Escandon and Hope Flores Escandon. She is preceded in death by her parents and her dear brother, Tony, Jr. Irene grew up in Picacho, AZ where her family owned & operated Picacho Market for many years. She attended Picacho Elementary school and graduated from Santa Cruz Valley Union High School in Eloy, AZ. in 1960. She graduated from Arizona State University with a BA in Business Education. While at ASU she met Adolfo Echeveste, her love and lifelong “companion.” Adolfo and Irene were married for 48 years and had 3 beloved sons, Daniel (Sylvia), Paul (Claudina) and Marc. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren Daniel Joseph (DJ), Christopher, Maricela, Eva and Olivia. Ernest Escandon (Donna) is her only surviving brother. Cousins, nephews, nieces, God children, compadres, high school friends, wonderful long time friends , new friends and kind & helpful neighbors & her former Warehouse Sports family & of course her book club girls were all so special to her. Irene worked at the AZ State Treasurer office, taught at Mesa Community College for 2 years and then owned and operated Warehouse Sports for 20 years. The last 20 years she supported her husband’s volunteer with the his labor of love – ALMA – Arizona Latin-American Medical Association. Her love for art inspired her and enriched her life. Her time spent in Pinetop was a very special place that she shared with her family and friends. Services were held.
