Richard (Red) J. Freeman, IV

U.S. Veteran

Richard J. "Red" Freeman, IV, 80 of Genoa died Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Kishwaukee Hospital.

He was born Oct. 7, 1932 in Sycamore. The son of Richard "Dick" J. and Petronella "Dolly" (Rhode) Freeman, III. He married Georgia L. Roden on Feb. 25, 1951 in St. Charles.

Red was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. He farmed in the Sycamore / Kirkland area for many years and owned and operated Sycamore Welding from 1969-1995, which is currently located in Genoa.

His hobbies included riding and showing horses. He enjoyed being in rodeos and calf roping. He and his wife traveled in their motor home to many cities and wintered in Arizona, with their dear friends. He also relished the time with his grandchildren, who were able to travel with him to various states.

His memberships include the DeKalb Moose and the Genoa VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia of Genoa; two sons, Kenneth Freeman of Sycamore and Rick Freeman of Genoa; three grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Wynn of Chana, Jason Freeman of Gifford and Alyssa Freeman of Sycamore; four great grandchildren, Olivia, Landon, Owen and Carter; one brother, Vernon (Theresa) Freeman of Genoa; three sisters, Juanita "Nita" (Ronald) Abbott of DeKalb, Dawn (Loren) Michaels of Savanna and Linda (Larry) Gilbreth of Sycamore; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Kenneth, Winnifred "Winnie", Delores "Dee", Ronald and Larry.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 530 W. State, Sycamore, with Rev. Steve Persson officiating. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery, with full military rites.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory in Sycamore and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the Church.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc or the Dekalb Co. Hospice in care of the Butala Funeral Home and Crematory, 1405 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore, IL 60178.
