Stephen J. Childers, age 66, of Highbridge, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013, at the Saint Luke’s Medical Center, in Duluth, Minnesota.
Stephen was born on September 17, 1946, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the son of Willis H. and Gladys L. (Cox) Childers. He and Gladys E. Kruzan were united in marriage, in Mellen, Wisconsin, on June 23, 1984. He owned and operated his own tractor trailer, covering most of the United States. He was a member of the Bay Area Rod and Custom Club and had collected many cars over the years. He also belonged to the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization and the Appellation Mountain Charities. He enjoyed drawing and painting.
Survivors include: his children: Stephen W. Childers, of Hayward, Wisconsin; Dana Childers, of Ashland, Wisconsin; Joe Childers, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; and Angela (Ron) Kerfoot, of Glidden, Wisconsin; and his step-daughters: Lana Burns, of Ashland; Gina and Dawn Suni, both of Mellen, Wisconsin; and Lori Jokinen, of Champlin, Minnesota. He is also survived by: nine grandchildren; his brother, David Childers, of Hopkinton, Massachusetts; his sister, Donna Boyd, of Plymouth, Massachusetts; his half brother, Willy Ray (Sharon) Childers, of Ironton, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Gladys, on Aug 19, 2006; his parents; his sister, Barbara; his brother, Richard; and his half sister, Fern Roberts.
A visitation, for family and friends, will be held at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen, beginning at 10 a.m., Friday, Septebmer 6, 2013, and continuing until the hour of service.
A Funeral Service, for Stephen, will be held at 12 noon, Friday, September 6, 2013, at the Congregational United Church of Christ, in Mellen. Reverend James Imse will officiate. His casket bearers will include: Stephen W. Childers, Joseph Childers, Lorissa Childers, Autumn Childers, Ronald Kerfoot, and Bryant Burns.
Interment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Highbridge.
