DeWayne T. "Tom" Chesley, age 90 of Brainerd, passed away on August 30, 2013 at Woodland Good Samaritan.

He was born July 12, 1923 in Falls City, NE, the elder of two sons of Arthur D. Chesley and Lillian (Kosakowski) Chesley.

He graduated from Falls City High School in 1941 and Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1948. He earned Masters degrees from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary, Northwestern University and the University of Minnesota.

He was ordained in the United Methodist Church and pastored the Methodist Church in Rulo, NE, Ashburn Methodist Church in Chicago and several rural churches in Northern Illinois.

Tom served in the US Army in WWII in the Philippines and the occupation of Japan.

He was a counselor and instructor in Vermont College and at Brainerd Jr. College (now Central Lakes College), retiring in 1986.

Tom was a member of Park United Methodist Church and the Brainerd Society of Friends (Quaker). He was president of Brainerd's Sharing Bread Soup Kitchen and served on the Kinship Partner's board. Tom was also a member of the Brainerd/Baxter Area Golden "K" Kiwanis Club and a chaplain volunteer at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter.

Tom in survived by his son, Dr. Brent (Laurie) Chesley of Grand Rapids, MI; and is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Marie (Jensen) Chesley; brother, John (Pearl) Chesley; and several cousins. A memorial service celebrating Tom's life will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Park United Methodist Church at 2pm.
