Reed “Gene” E. Morlan, 75, of Hoopeston, passed away at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at home. Gene was born on August 10, 1938, in Hoopeston, the son of Robert Edward and Peggy Pearline (Crumpton) Morlan. He married Donna Perkins on January 27, 1958, in Danville. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters- Kim (George) Haas of Bismarck and Patty (Jim) Sanders of Hoopeston; one son- Brian E. Morlan of Hoopeston; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one brother- Randy Morlan of West Lebanon, Indiana; three sisters- Kay (Robert) Bond of Richmond, Missouri, Sharon (Jack ) Tanner of Marshfield, Indiana and Anna Eads of Hoopeston; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-Lawrence “Todd” Morlan. Gene attended schools in Hoopeston. He served in the United States Air Force. Gene worked as a truck driver for several years, until he retired in 1995. After he retired, Gene drove cars for Read in Hoopeston. He was a member of the Northfork Conservation Club and Moose Lodge #1227 for several years. Gene was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed mushroom hunting and hunting, especially rabbit hunting. He also enjoyed recycling, gardening and spending time with family at family get to gathers. A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Following the services he will be cremated and laid to rest at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2013 in Floral Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
