Joseph A. Bombay, 90, died Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, after a brief illness.
Joseph was born in Minersville, Pa. on December 26, 1922, the son of John and Martha (Jones) Bombay and was a resident of Rochester, and Bunion Beach, Fla. He enjoyed sports and was an avid Phiilies and Eagles fan. He was predeceased by a daughter, Lois Fogarty, his first wife, Mildred and four sisters and two brothers.
Surviving members of the family include: his wife, Irene (Laurion) Bombay of Rochester, five daughters, Joan Wadsworth of South Hampton, Pa., Carol Zapf of Boynton Beach, Fla., Mary Ann Newkumet of South Hampton, Pa., Nancy Bombay of Mount Laurel, N.J. and Diane Gill of Maple Shade, N.J., two stepsons, Richard P. Breton of Strafford, and Mark A. Breton of Gonic. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bombay of Leesburg, Fla., twenty-one grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret and Susan.
Joe left school at the age of 12 to work in the coal mines of Pa. to support his mother and large family. He proudly served his country in the army and received the purple heat in World War II. He retired from the Budd company after 30 years of employment of Philadelphia.
Visitation will be held at the H. J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main Street, Rochester, N.H. on Thursday, 8/29/2013, from 9 to 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy rosary Church.
