Ruth Bernice Burns

Ruth Burns, age 81, of Imlay City, passed away after an extended illness Monday, August 26, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. Ruth Bernice Eddy was born on May 27, 1932 in Roseville, Michigan. She was the daughter of Allen and Irma Eddy. Ruth grew up in Roseville. Ruth graduated from the Roseville High School - Class of 1950. She married George Hugh Burns on July 3, 1952 in Utica, Michigan. They have lived in the Imlay City area since 1954. George died on March 18, 2008. Ruth was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City; St. Paul’s Women’s Circle Bible Study; and a Catechism teacher for nearly 30 years. She was a strong supporter of the Imlay City Band Boosters. Ruth had been a clerk at the Imlay City Western Auto Store; a secretary at : Earl Gass Insurance, Atkins Insurance, and K.C. Insurance. She was also her husband George’s secretary for George’s Sign Company. Ruth is survived by her sons: Dennis (& Debra) Burns of Imlay City, Steven (& Dortha) Burns of Lapeer and Gary (& Lisa) Burns of Hadley; grandchildren: Salina (George) Mavis, Stephanie (Brandon) Ogle, Nathan Burns, Meagan Burns, Chelcie Burns, Collin Burns, Cheryse Burns, and Charlene Burns; great-grandchildren: George H. Mavis, Lily Mavis, Gage Ogle, Tatum Ogle, and Elliot Ogle; and by her sister: Carol Deppong. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband George Burns, parents: Allen and Irma Eddy, sister: Ellaine (Jim) Berry and brother in-law: Gerald Deppong. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Imlay City. Reverend Alan Casillas will officiate. Friends may call at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, 225 Main Street, Imlay City where the family will be available for visiting 2-5 & 6-8 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013. Interment services will follow at the Imlay Township Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions may direct them to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (Music Funds and Scholarship Funds).
