Alyce A Coon

Alyce A. Coon (nee O’Donnell), 84, of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday August 18, 2013. Mrs. Coon was born April 7, 1929 in Derby, Connecticut. She graduated from The Academy of St. Therese, Carnegie Institute of Practical Nursing and The Niagra School of Speech and Psychology. Mrs. Coon worked for many years as a legal secretary for West, West & Sherman & Co., L.P.A. She was a long time resident of North Ridgeville. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in North Ridgeville as well as The Women of the Moose and the Ladies’ Auxiliary of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville, where she was also Past President. Mrs. Coon was also Past President of Lorain County Council of the VFW and Past District Chaplain. She loved children and taught PSR at St. Peter Catholic Church and reading classes at Wilcox Elementary School in North Ridgeville for many years. She also mentored for Ohio Reads and was in the first class of Lorain County Speak Up For A Child. She is survived by one daughter Michelle Stambaugh (Joseph) of North Ridgeville; one son Michael Coon (Julie) of Pemberville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jacob C.; her parents John and Anna (nee Shea) O’Donnell; one sister Mary Yuravak and one brother Jack D. O’Donnell. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 21, 2013 from 5-8pm at Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd. (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville. Members from the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post #9871 North Ridgeville will conduct a memorial service at 7:30pm Wednesday. A prayer service will be held on Thursday August 22, 2013 at 9:15am at the funeral home followed by a 10am Funeral Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, 35777 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville. Rev. Robert Franco, pastor, will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to North Ridgeville Community Care, 34015 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville, OH 44039.
