David Bruce Bowman, 65, passed away on August 9, 2013, while vacationing with his family at his favorite beach.
The adored husband of his wife Liz, David will be forever remembered for his kind, peaceful, and optimistic spirit. David was committed to helping others, both through his career as a registered psychiatric nurse, and as a devoted husband, father, and friend.
David was born in 1947 in Philadelphia, PA, to Mary and Keith Bowman. He grew up in upstate New York. David was a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan and Hocking College. David had lived in Athens since 1975.
An eagle scout as a young boy, David was a life-long lover of nature. He spent much time hiking, biking, and camping. He was an avid gardener and reader with a passion for music and adventure.
David was a determined and resourceful handyman. Always with kind words for others, he had an amazing sense of humor and his love of life and search for peace were contagious.
David is survived by his wife Liz Bowman of Athens; his mother, Mary Bowman of Pittsburgh, PA; brother Steve Bowman and wife Yvonne of Ithaca, NY; son Jeremy Bowman and wife Jennifer, of Athens; son Jeff Bowman and wife Michele of Nashville, TN; son Robin Bowman of Athens; and nine stepchildren, Dan, Caroline, Rose, Ben, and Kate Frech, and Hope Phillips; Jenny & Hartley Leigh; & Rose Horn. He also leaves four grandchildren, Andrew, Ethan, Haley, and Henry, and many beloved friends.
A celebration of David’s life with a potluck after will be held at The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, in Athens, at 4pm on September 7. Arrangments are by Jagers & Sons Funeral Home. Friends may share a memory or send a note of condolence at www.jagersfuneralhome.com.
