Obituary announcement Dateline: Cascade

Raymond R. Takes, 80, of 506 Buchanan St., Cascade, Iowa, died Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 5:25 a.m., at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Ray may call from 3 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, Iowa.

Services for Ray will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Temple Hill, Iowa with Msgr. Richard Funke officiating. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa with full military honors afforded by the Cascade American Legion Post #528..

Ray was born October 30, 1932 in Cascade, Iowa, son of Albert P. and Rosalyn (Koob) Takes. He received his education at the St. Mary’s School in Cascade. On January 14, 1956 he was united in marriage to Irene L. Besler at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cascade, Iowa. He was employed with the City of Cascade, and later with Orland Besler Construction as a Truck Driver until his retirement. Ray then took excellent care of his wife Irene during her illness with MS for 26 years in their home.

Ray was a Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and a member of the Cascade American Legion Post #528.

He is survived by a brother, Donald Takes of Cascade, IA; two sisters, Marie Finn of Cascade, IA, and Leona “Mazie” (Fred) Moore of LaMotte, IA; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Takes of Cascade, IA, and a brother-in-law, Edward Besler of Las Vegas, NV. He was also a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene Takes on March 29, 2007; two brothers, Eldon Takes and Leo Takes; a brother-in-law, Gerald Finn, and a sister-in-law, Aileen Takes.
