U.S. Veteran

Wallace G. Patten, 88, passed away early Friday morning, August 16,2013 at Heritage Health in Dwight.

The family is having a private graveside service on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013. Military honors will performed by the VFW Post 2608 and the American Legion Post 486. Memorials may be made to the Pontiac Hospice.

Wally was born October 3, 1924 in Dwight the son of Walter & Alice Paulsen Patten. He married Lorraine Osborn on May 6, 1945. He graduated from Dwight High School and attended North Central College. He honorably served his country in the West Indies during World War II.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lorraine, three sons; Craig (Lynn) , Joel (Barb), & Robin (Dena) Patten all of Dwight; a sister Irene (Frank deceased) Motta, Dwight, 6 Grandchildren; Brad (Lori) Patten, Gina( Al) Mazzocchi, Troy (Tracy) Anderson, Ashley (Keelan) Amelianovich, Abby ( John) Ortega and Kara Patten and 6 great-grandchildren; Mady Patten, Cole Patten, Alex Mazzocchi, Sophia Mazzocchi, Taylor Anderson, and Erin Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother in law Buddy Osborn.

Wally worked early in his life as a bookkeeper for the Veteran's Administration Hospital, and in the Chicago Carpenter's Union before becoming a self employed contractor in Dwight, retiring after 45 years.He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, serving 31 years as their treasurer. He was a member of the Dwight VFW and American Legion and was also a boyscout leader. Wally was an avid golfer and played until he was 86 years old.
