Ertle Duane Duncan

Ertle D. Duncan, 89, of New Cambria, MO, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at the Samaritan Hospital in Macon, MO.

Ertle was born on June 16, 1924, in New Cambria, the son of James and Essie (Heptonstall) Duncan. He served his country in the United States Army in World War II and was a guard at the Nuremberg Trials in Germany. Ertle was united in marriage to Elsie N. Beale in Macon, on January 29, 1949. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. He spent 53 years milking cows, and enjoyed traveling, especially the Colorado Mountains, quail hunting, reading western books, listening to country and western music and spending time with family—especially his grandchildren.

Ertle is survived by his wife, Elsie of the home, two sons, Ronald Duncan and wife Joan of New Cambria, Michael Duncan and wife Sharon of New Cambria, five grandchildren; Lisa Steen, Jeff Duncan, Shanna Matheney and husband Tony, Todd Duncan and wife Jill, Travis Duncan and wife Lois; thirteen great-grandchildren, Renee, Brittany, Corey, Abby, Garrett, MaKeenia, Brooke, Cody, Brady,Benett, Bryce, Zane, and Tyler; three great-great-grandchildren, Trinity, Bentley, and Brenley, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Elvin and Ernest Duncan, and three sisters, Margaret, Ruth and Ruby.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Gilleland and McElwain Funeral Home in New Cambria with Brother Jim Bolin officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the New Cambria Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening, August 16, 2013, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, at the funeral home in New Cambria. Memorials are suggested to the Dialysis Unit at Samaritan Hospital or the Diabetes Association.
