Clara T. Sveda, 94, of 423 13th Avenue East, Ashland, Wisconsin, died on August 3, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society Ambassador Nursing Home, in New Hope, Minnesota.
She was born on October 15, l918, in Ashland, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Hruby) Belsky. She attended the Ashland and Milwaukee Public Schools and graduated from Ashland High School.
Mrs. Sveda was the Ashland County Register of Deeds for many years. During World War II she worked at the Marathon Paper Mill, in Ashland. She is probably best remembered as Assistant Librarian at Northland College, Ashland, from which she retired.
Mrs. Sveda was a member of the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. She was also a member and President of the Catholic War Veterans. She was presently serving as President of the Western Fraternal Bohemian Life Association, and she was a member of the Ashland Monday Club. Clara was an avid gardener and won many awards from the Ashland Area Chamber of Commerce for her beautiful roses and flowers. She traveled extensively to: Hawaii, Jamaica, Mexico, California, Florida, as well as many other states and countries. She visited: the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and took the Circle Tour.
She was married to Louis Frank Tarasewicz, on October 19, l940, at St. Agnes Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on October 29, l971. On June 6th, l975 she married Ignatius Sveda, at St Agnes Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on April 28, l989.
She is survived by: her daughter, Mrs. David (Jean) Ovaska, of Plymouth, Minnesota; and her son Mr. Joe (Marcia) Tarasewicz, of Maple Grove, Minnesota. She is also survived by: three grandchildren: Mrs. Michael (Carey) Ockrim, of Willowbrook, Illinois; Mrs. Michael (Ashley) Hosfield, of Plymouth; and Jason Tarasewicz, of Duluth, Minnesota; four great grandchildren: Nathan, Nicholas, Jillian and Nora Ockrim, of Willowbrook; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husbands; her parents; her sister, Elsie Slaby; brothers: Louis Belsky, James Belsky, Donald Belsky and Joseph Belsky; and one stepsister, Madeline Peterson.
A gathering, for family and friends, will be held at the Mountain Funeral Home, in Ashland, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013. There will be a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial, for Clara, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, in Ashland. Father Edward McKenzie, O.F.M., will be the Celebrant.
Interment, in the Saint Agnes Cemetery, Ashland, will immediately follow the Mass.
