Sonja Abney from Conifer, CO passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on July 29, 2013. A Colorado native, she was an Alameda High School alumna. Sonja graduated from UCD with a degree in Biology and Chemistry and she was a supervisory chemist with USGS. Her passions included photography, nature, and animals, of which she blessed us with wonderful pictures throughout the years. She loved the Peruvian Inca Orchid hairless dog breed and was a highly regarded member of the PIO community. She loved life, music, flowers, whale watching, margaritas, Mexican food, wildlife, and she was always making great plans for the future. She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond Abney and Donna Abney and she will be greatly missed by her husband (Jay Carlson), sister (Kelli Hansen), brother-in-law, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and last but not least her four-legged children.
