U.S. Veteran

Joseph N. Spanial, 84, of Hazleton passed away Friday in the Hazleton General Hospital.

Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Jennie (Avillion) Spanial. Joseph was a 1946 graduate of Hazleton High School. He then served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Japan after the bombing of Nagasaki. Joseph then attended the Penn State University where he received his degree in accounting in 1952.

He worked as a self-employed CPA in Hazleton from 1975 until his illness would no longer allow it. Joseph was a member of the Most Precious Blood Church, the Swing Club and the Valley Country Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed all sports. Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose greatest love was his family.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife, Angela M. (DeNoia) Spanial.

Surviving are his children, Joseph D. and wife, Gale, Conyngham; Mary Beth, West Hazleton; Angela J., McAdoo; and Barry and fiancée, Alyce Anne, Weatherly; grandchildren, Marisa, Gino and Julia.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Most Precious Blood Church. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family
