Betty Jean Boyd, 91, of Perryville, died August 3, 2013 at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville.
She was born March 21, 1922 in Springfield, MO, daughter of August W. and Lillie (Blaylock) Lix. She and Howard Berkbuegler were married on February 22, 1941. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1971. She and Delmar Boyd were married on May 17, 1975. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2010.
Betty had been a bookkeeper at Farm Bureau Co-op Feed Store, a grocery checker at Rozier’s and IGA Foodliner. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Methodist Women Society, American Legion Post 133 Auxiliary, and Charter and Life Member of VFW Post 4282 Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Church Administrative Board. She helped organize and was past secretary of the Sponsor Board of Perry County Nutrition Center for 20 years. She was past president and District President of the American Legion Auxiliary and past Board Member and President of Perry County Sheltered Workshop.
Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Stanley (Anna) Berkbuegler, Carol Newell, Judith (Charles) Lilly, Lynn (Peggy) Berkbuegler, all of Perryville; two step-sons, Allen (Alma) Boyd of Jackson, MO, Kenneth (Madonna) Boyd of Oregon; two step daughters, Joyce (Charles) Hurst of St. Mary, Wanda Boyd of St. Louis; one brother, Retired Colonel Robert (Sally) Lix of Haines, AK; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Eula Renner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; one sister, Sylvia Seabaugh; three grandsons, Michael, Billy and Daniel Berkbuegler.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 6 at Young & Sons Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 pm with American Legion Auxiliary Wake Tuesday @ 6pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 7 from 6:30 am until time service at the funeral home at 10:00 am with Rev. Anne Saegesser officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to United Methodist Church.
