Constantine “Gus” Alexiou

Beloved Father and Grandfather

Mr. Constantine “Gus” Alexiou, 91, of 176 Ridgewood Drive, Rocky Hill, formerly of Torrington, passed away Friday August 2, 2013 at Hartford Hospital in the presence of his loving family. He was the widower of Irene (Koutsavles) Alexiou.

Gus was born in Quantico, VA on June 8, 1922, son of Anagnosti and Eugenia (Pappaeliou) Alexiou. He and his family moved to New York City when he was five years old. He graduated Valedictorian from Manhattan High School of Aviation. He attended Champlain College and St. Anselm’s College where he majored in mechanical engineering. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He worked in Manhattan in the sales of business equipment for many years. He moved to Memphis, TN and was the S.E. Regional Manager at 3M Corporation for ten years. He later continued his career in sales management to Pittsburg, PA working for Varityper Corporation until his retirement. He and his wife retired to Torrington, CT where they joined Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury. He was a member of several civic organizations including the Torrington Elks Lodge # 372, American Legion Post 38, Torrington, and VFW Torrington Memorial Post 9086.

He leaves a daughter, Eugenie Trefz and her husband Peter Charles of Rocky Hill, CT, a brother Louis Alexiou and his wife Nicolette of Miami, FL, a sister, Eleftheria “Libby” Koumoutseas of Brooklyn, NY and two grandsons, Michael Constantine Trefz and Nicholas Peter Trefz both of New York City. Besides his wife and parents he is predeceased by his sister Peggy Angelakos.

Arrangements: Funeral service will be held Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Waterbury, CT. Everyone is asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with military honors will follow at State Veteran’s Cemetery Bow Lane, Middletown, CT . Calling hours will be held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
