Juanita Rose Allen, 90, went to Heaven on July 26, 2013. A long time resident of Pensacola, she was born on March 28, 1923 to Bethene and Fred Welch in Soddy, Tennessee. As a young girl, Ms. Allen was a gifted student and advanced from the 5th grade to the 7th grade. After graduating from business college, she went on to schedule surgeries at Erlanger Hospital in Soddy, Tennessee and later became a bookkeeper for local doctors and realtors in Pensacola, Florida. She also served as a pastor’s wife for more than forty years.
Ms. Allen had an unwavering love for God and family as well as a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Lovingly known by her grandchildren as MeMe and her great grandchildren as the “great great MeMe”, she would often boast that she rocked one of her grandsons, Jon, until his feet dragged the floor. She loved listening to gospel and big band music, yellow roses, cruising on the Mississippi Queen, going to the movies with her son-in-law Bo, spending time with her grandkids, and working crossword puzzles and word searches. Ms. Allen was a selfless woman with a great capacity to love. She always had time to give of herself to others no matter the time of day or night, and never uttered an unkind word to anyone. She was a true and loving example of a Proverbs 31 virtuous woman. Ms. Allen created many wonderful and lasting memories, and her gentle spirit has left an inerasable mark on the lives of four generations. She will be greatly missed.
Ms. Allen is preceded in death by her mother and father, Bethene and Fred Welch, her brother Bernarr, and her sister Polly.
She is survived by her four children, Sandra (Bo) Hoynacki, Cliff (Brenda) Allen, Pam DelGallo (James), and Mark Allen; 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Joann (Bob) Minnock, and Judith (Gerald) Thompson, one brother Dewayne (Sonny) Scott, and dear friend Pam.
