Connie DALLAS July 30, 1913 - July 19, 2013
Connie was born in Centralia, WA on July 30, 1913. She was a graduate of Centralia High School in 1930, and Centralia Junior College in 1933. She entered the University of Washington in 1933, as one of the first women in the School of Business. She graduated in 1935, with honors from University of Washington, becoming a member of Beta Gama Sigma Honorary Society.
In 1935, she got a job at WPA in Longview, WA. She was working at Lewis County Welfare, and she earned enough money to buy her first car. She learned to drive by having someone show her how to shift.
Boarding at Mrs. Derberyshire’s house with lots of young men who worked in the Longview Mill, she met her future husband, James Dallas. She and James married in June of 1936.
She later returned to the U of W School of Social Work and received a Master’s degree, her most cherished accomplishment. Connie then worked full time at Catholic Children’s Services. She was active in many social groups, civic groups, local politics and community services all of her adult life.
Connie was an avid gardener and hiker, and loved to travel. She was a collector of antiques, including antique dolls and had a beautiful bonsai collection. She loved poetry and wrote poems all her life; she personally published a book of poems for her family and many friends. Connie was a member of University Women’s Club for many years.
She lived her life with a spirit of adventure.
Connie is survived by her 2 daughters; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death in 1995, by James Dallas, her loving husband of almost 60 years; and her brother John Paul Hackett.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, July 27th at 10:30 AM at St. James Cathedral, 804 9th Ave, Seattle 98104. Interment, Holyrood Cemetery.
