CHICOPEE – Mary L. (Linnehan) Danahy, 88, a native and lifelong resident of Chicopee, passed away with her daughter at her side on July 19, 2013 in the Birch Manor Nursing Home in Chicopee. Mary, born on April 30, 1925, was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Anna G. (McCarthy) Linnehan and was educated in Holy Name Grammar and High Schools. In 1946, she received her nursing degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, serving as a Private Duty Nurse originally and completing her career with 20 years of service in High Risk OB Nursing in the Wesson Women’s Unit of Baystate Medical Center. She retired in 1989. Mary was a member of Holy Name Parish, the Irish Cultural Center at the Elms College and the Chicopee Falls Womens Club. Mary was the wife of the late John V. Danahy who passed away on March 23, 2000 and was also predeceased by a daughter, MaryAnn Danahy on July 20, 1953 and a sister, Anne T. Linnehan on August 23, 1980. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah A. Provost and her husband Mark of Chicopee, a grandson, Matthew A. Provost of San Diego, CA along with several extended family and friends. Debbie and Mark would like to thank the staff at Birch Manor Nursing Home for the care and kindness extended to Mary during her time there. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 beginning at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee at 9 a.m. with the Funeral Mass being celebrated at 10 a.m. in the chapel on the campus of Our Lady of the Elms College. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
