Johnny Ray Collinsworth, age 58, passed away at home Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in Gaskin, Florida after a two year battle with cancer. Johnny was born in Marianna, Florida on May 6, 1955 and he was raised in Gaskin by his mother and father, Martha Doris and Kie Collinsworth. Johnny joined the National Guard Army and served faithfully from September of 1974 through December of 1976, before he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country for 20 years. During that time he worked in communications and radar, on vessels such as the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN-69, the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71, and the USS San Jacinto while stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and shore-duty stations, MOTO-2 (in Norfolk, VA), Kingsbay Submarine Station (in St. Marys, GA), as well as Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. While serving his country, Johnny diligently worked his way up the naval ranks from a seaman to that of Senior Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, Johnny worked at Shaw Industries in Andalusia, AL for 15 years as an electrician. Johnny married the love of his life, Joy Dean Jackson, on February 28, 1976. Together they lovingly raised a daughter, Reagan Collinsworth Hawkins, a son, John Heath Collinsworth, and were able to touch the life of another special someone, Starla Brownell Clough. Johnny had a love of life and a love for getting things done. He was often found out in the fields working on his tractor to get pasture cleared and ready for the livestock that he cared for. In his spare time he loved to fish, especially salt water fishing, and he enjoyed being on the computer. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. His sweet smile and loving ways will be truly missed. Johnny is survived by his wife of 37 years, Joy Jackson Collinsworth of Gaskin, FL; daughter, Reagan Collinsworth Hawkins and her sons, Tailor, John, and Dylan, of DeFuniak Springs, FL; son, J. Heath Collinsworth and his son, Kie of Gaskin, FL; mother and father, Martha Doris and Kie Collinsworth of Gaskin, FL; brother, Bobby G. Collinsworth and his wife, Rhonda, of Gaskin, FL; and mother-in-law, Joyce Jackson, of Lockhart, AL. He is also survived by an abundance of extended loved ones, including five nieces and three nephews; six great nieces and one great nephew; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
