Jan LeRoy Brown, Sr. the second eldest of four siblings was born on a Thursday, December 1, 1955 in Los Angeles, California to James Leroy and Louise Lavon Brown. At a very early age, Jan accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized at the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. In later years, he began attending West Angeles Church of God in Christ where he joined under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Blake. Jan received his education in the Los Angeles public school system and graduated from Crenshaw image High School in 1973. He was a very hard worker and held various positions of employment during his lifetime. He worked for many years at the Los Angeles Unified School District, Forshay Junior High School, where he retired due to medical reasons.
Jan lived life to the fullest, and he had a smile that could charm the world. He particularly enjoyed laughing at his own jokes (most of which were not that funny). Jan was totally into sports and very competitive; participating in football, basketball, track and field, and swimming. (Believe it or not you LA Laker fans, Jan was a die-hard Miami Heat fan.) He always laughed so hard at everyone after Miami would beat our team. Jan was also a good cook. He could "throw down" on some barbeque, and made the best yams in LA. His grits and eggs were pretty good, too. Jan also loved to play dominoes, bid whist, and spades with the kids. There was no doubt that Jan loved his children and his family very much.
The goodness of God allowed us to enjoy Jan's life; but, in His sovereignty, God called him home on Saturday, July 6, 2013. Jan leaves loving memories that will be cherished forever by his loving parents, James and Louise Brown; three sons, Jan Leroy Brown, Jr., Marquis Brady Brown, and Brandon Jamal Brown; three daughters (twins) Chey and Cheyenne Brown, and Airianna Brown; two grandchildren, Taya and Jailyn Brown Gan, Jr.); two sisters, Jeanetta Diamond (Garland) and Teal Bearden (Robert); two brothers, Tyreese Brown (Sheila) and Chris Williams (Veronica); his fiancé, Michelle Coleman, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
