U.S. Veteran

Robert Thomas 'Bob' Shea, 90, of Danvers, formerly of Yarmouth and Reading, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late Andrew J. and Mary (O'Neil) Shea. Beloved brother of the late Joseph, Edward, Leo, George, William, Evelyn and Helen Shea.

Survived by his loving wife of 69 years Dorothy M. Shea of Danvers, son Robert Shea and his wife Brooks of New York, daughter Nancy Goldstein and her husband Matt of Beverly and granddaughters Alexa and Taylor Ayoub of Beverly.

Following graduation from Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge, Bob enlisted in the Army Air Force and proudly served on a B29 in the China, Burma, India Theatre during WWII in the 20th Air Force, General Billy Mitchell Group. Recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and The Distinguished Flying Cross. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

Employed by Buck Printing Company for more than 25 years and later Blue Cross/Blue Shield, both in Boston.

A resident of Reading for more than 30 years, the family vacationed on Cape Cod and Bob and Dot retired to Yarmouth. In addition to enjoying retirement on the Cape, Bob and Dot traveled extensively, often accompanied by family and friends. They visited Greece, Italy, Spain, The Caribbean, Mexico, Latin America, Canada and California. Ocean cruises were a particular favorite. Bob also had an extraordinary love of animals and cared for many pets throughout his life.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 15 at 9:00 am at the St. Mary of the Annunciation 24 Conant St. Danvers, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Monday at 2:45PM

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob's memory to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Advance Dept., 10 Chandler St., Boston, MA 02116 or to Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
