Mrs. Phyllis J. Collins, 88, of New London, New Hampshire, died July 7, 2013 with family by her side at the Clough Center, New London, NH.
She was born February 7, 1925 in Somerville, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dr. Frank L. Jones of Brunswick Canada and Anna Proctor of Searsmont, Maine. Phyllis grew up in Winchester, MA, graduated Winchester High School in 1942. She then enrolled at Colby Junior College for Women, New London, NH where she earned an Associate of Art degree in 1944. Phyllis enlisted into the United States Navy in May 1945 earned the rank of Specialist (V) Second Class in the WAVES performing duties as a Flight Orderly, and was honorably discharged in August 1946. In 1947, Phyllis became a Stewardess for United Airlines and flew domestic routes for twelve years.
In early 1957, Phyllis was reunited with a boy she knew from the second grade, Clark W. Collins Jr. who was employed as a pilot for American Airlines. Phyllis and Clark were married June 22, 1959 and she became a devoted housewife. They resided as a young married couple in Carlisle, MA before relocating to Ridgefield, CT for eight years, then Lyme, NH for two years before settling in New London for the last thirty-seven years.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Clark W. Collins Jr. of fifty-four years, a son Charles Dana Collins, a daughter Laurie E. Brennan-Bashaw, her husband Joel Bashaw and a grandson, Colin Brennan. Phyllis is also survived by her sister-in-law Sally B. Jones, her nephew Mark Jones, his wife Bernadette, her niece Stephanie Schweighofer-Jones and their children. Phyllis was predeceased by her brother Proctor Jones of Wellseley Hills, MA, a grand-daughter, Sarah Lynne Brennan and a grandson, James Clark Brennan.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of New London, 461 Main Street, New London, New Hampshire at 11:00 am July 20, 2013 followed by interment at the town of New London’s Old Main Street Cemetery.
