Jan S. Cieckiewicz, 90, of Hartford, beloved husband for 56 years of Maria (Schaftner) Cieckiewicz, died peacefully July 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at Hartford Hospital .He was born in Cieszanow, Poland January 23, 1923 son of the late Wincente and Franciszka Cieckiewicz. Jan was a United States Army Veteran. He worked for the City of Hartford for 33 years and also for Hartford Hospital for 30 years. He was a longtime communicant of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. He enjoyed gardening and his neighborhood walks. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Rose Birol and her husband Herbert of Germany, Maria Parker and her husband Don of Newington, and Caroline Biancamano and her husband John of Wethersfield, grandchildren, Michael Parker of Philadelphia, PA., Melissa Fusco and her husband Jim, and Kimberly Parker all of Newington, a great grandchild Dillon Fusco, numerous nieces and nephews in Poland. The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hartford Hospital for all their compassionate care.The funeral will be Tuesday, July 9, 2013, 10:15 a.m. from The Dillon-Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 a.m. in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 494 New Britain Ave. Hartford. Burial with military honors will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, Monday, 4-7 p.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
