Roosevelt graduated from Bettye Mae Jack High School in Morton, Ms., and furthered his education at Prentiss Community College in Prentiss, Ms. He later enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served his country in the Vietnam War. Later after attending Common Wealth Institute of Funeral Service, in Houston, TX, he earned an AA Mortuary of Science degree, in 1988.

Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife, Mrs. Kyong Im Lee Cousin, whom he met while serving a tour of duty in Korea; two daughters, Schkeara Cousin (North Carolina) and Esther Cousin (Louisiana); two sons, Roosevelt T. Cousin, III (North Carolina) and Andrew Cousin (Luke Air Force Base, Arizona); three sisters, Comadell Williams (Mississippi), Agnes Foster (Illinois), and Annette Bennett (Mississippi); a granddaughter, Yentae Cousin (North Carolina); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
