David W. Smith

U.S. Veteran

David W. Smith, 57, of Merrimack, NH died Tuesday July 2, 2013 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Biloxi, MS on Jan. 30, 1956, a son of Beverly A. (Gustafson) Smith of Tewksbury, MA and the late Wendell B. Smith. Dave was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps serving from 1975-1978. He received an accounting degree from Bentley College. He had been formerly employed at Chemfab in Merrimack as a Controller. Dave found his greatest joy in watching his children play sports and coaching kids for more than 20 years within various organizations, primarily the MYA. His warmth, kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Some of his pleasures in life included music, fishing and family vacations. Above all else, Dave always found the most happiness when surrounded by his family and friends and had a very special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Members of his family include his wife, best friend and soul mate of 37 years, Midge (Williams) Smith of Merrimack; son and daughter in-law, Matthew and Megan Smith of Merrimack; son and girlfriend, Kyle Smith and Claire Palmer of Merrimack; daughter and fiancée, Kara Smith and John Osei of Rhode Island; two grandchildren, Evie and Deacon Smith; three brothers, Steven (Cindy), Jeffrey (Claire), and Michael (Lydia) Smith; sisters-in-law Sandi Gardner and Lindas (John) Dillon; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial calling hours will be Friday July 5, 2013 in the Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack from 5-8 PM. A graveside service will be held in Last Rest Cemetery, Merrimack Saturday at 10 AM. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Community Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Dr, Merrimack, NH 03054 or the Merrimack Youth Association basketball or baseball programs, Po Box 153, Merrimack, NH 03054.
