Billie Bruce "Bill" Cantwell, 76, former Franklin Fire Chief, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. He was a life- long resident of Franklin He was born on December 17, 1936 in Franklin to Jayson and Edelle (Keith) Cantwell. He married Phyllis K. Clearwater on September 7, 1957. She preceded him in passing on July 31, 2008. Survivors include his sons William Scott Cantwell, Jeffery Keith Cantwell (Kim) both of Franklin; grandchildren Allison, Allouri, Jason, Emma, Anna, Gracie, Katie, Josh, Will; 3 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Macie, and Kaitlyn. He was preceded in passing by his parents; wife Phyllis; brother Jim Cantwell; sister Shirley S. Cantwell; and granddaughter Makenzie Cantwell. Bill worked for Freeze & Abplanalp for 16 years. He retired from the Franklin Fire Dept. in 1992 where he served as Lt. Asst Chief; Dept. Chief; and Fire Chief. He served with the 38th infantry Division of the Indiana National Guard for 9 years; served on the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Board of Directors for 3 years; Franklin Career Fire Fighters Local 3433 as Trustee; American Legion Post 205 Board of Trustees; current member of the Jubilee Masonic Lodge No. 746; former member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge No. 107; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; order of Eastern Star; Democratic Precinct Committee person; International Association of Fire Fighters; AFL-CIO- CLC; and was named the Franklin Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year in 1990. Bill loved to fish, hunt, and play music. A service will be conducted on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:00am at Flinn & Maguire F.H. in Franklin. Friends may call on Friday, April 19, 1013 from 3-7pm also at the funeral home. A Masonic service will take place on Friday evening at 7pm. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
