Thomas “Tom” R. Ford, 81, passed away on June 25, 2013 in East Wenatchee, Washington. He was born on July 18, 1931 in the family home in Carmel, Colorado to Charles and Etta Ford.
Tom grew up in the Carmel area and at a young age started farming. He married Donna Dee Belt on August 5, 1951 in Taos, New Mexico. Tom was a past President and member of Colorado Potato Administrative Committee and was a past Chairman of the board and member of the Alamosa State Bank Board. His love was farming, he farmed in the valley for over 50 years harvesting and producing potatoes and barley. He was inducted into the Colorado Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2008. Tom was a great business man; he owned three trailer parks and three carwashes. Tom enjoyed fishing, traveling, golfing and especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Donna Ford of Alamosa, his daughter Debbie Ford of Alamosa, his sisters, Josie Brewer and Alice Peel, both of Mesa, Arizona and numerous nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, George Ford and Billy Ford and his sisters, Martha Cannon and Nellie Ford.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 29, 2013 at the Alamosa third ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (located west of Safeway). Interment will follow services in the San Luis Valley Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday evening at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Hospice Del Valle and may be made through the funeral home office.
