Raymond Leo Baten

U.S. Veteran

Born May 15, 1928 in Greenwood, TX; Died on June 25th, 4:20 pm, 2013 in Katy, TX.  He reached 85 years, one month, 10 days.

 

Preceded in death are Raymond’s parents, Winburn & Annie Baten; brothers Delbert Baten & Gilbert Baten; son Raymond Leo Baten, Jr.

 

Raymond is survived by his wife, Gorda Bell Baten of 61 yrs; daughter Joyce Hodges and son-in-law Joel Hodges; grandson Joel Raymond Hodges and his wife, Michelle Lee Hodges; granddaughter Jessica Dawn Daniel and her husband David Ralph Daniel; and three great-grandsons: Jordan Joseph, Gabriel William and Michael Isaiah Daniel.

Raymond is also survived by his sisters and brother: Bonnie Crawford; Guyda Webb, Jim Baten and Linda Johnson. 

 

Raymond grew up in Decatur, TX, and graduated from high school in White Deer, TX.  Raymond graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, 1948.  He served as a Heavy Antiaircraft Artillery Fire Control Crewman in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as Private First Class in 1954.  He enjoyed a twenty-six year career with Texas Instruments in Dallas working in electronic design.   

 

Raymond took pleasure in fishing and bowling as hobbies. Raymond and Gorda enjoyed international travel.   He used his talents as ministries: singing in church choirs, serving as a deacon in several churches, teaching Sunday School to elementary children and carpentry/woodworking skills for church projects.  Raymond also built his retirement home with help from his brother, Jim, and a little help from Joyce, Joel and Jessica.  His greatest joy was spending time with his family and singing songs at family gatherings during holidays. 

 

Raymond’s humor, smile, gentle spirit, and compassion will be greatly missed. 

 

Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Restland Funeral Home, 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243, 972.238.7111.  Visitation will be Thursday June 27, 6:00 – 8:00 PM.  The memorial service will be held on Friday June 28, 9:30 AM.  Graveside service immediately following at Restland.
