Retired Baptist minister, Reverend Emmett L. Boone, 90, returned to his “Father’s house where there are many mansions, that where the Lord Jesus Christ is, he may be also”, on Sunday, June 23, 2013. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church, followed by burial in Highland Cemetery. The services will be officiated by Rev. Mickey Steele along with Rev. James Taylor, Dr. Keith Thompson and Bro. Matt Maxwell. Music will be provide by Roger Blackwell. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gardner, Lloyd Bullock, Joe Watts, Bryan Lee, Eddie Grimsley and Charles Walker.
Rev. Boone devoted his life to the service of the community of Hattiesburg. He retired as Captain from the Hattiesburg Police Department where he served 20 years. Rev. Boone also served as pastor of various Baptist churches for 65 years. Pastorates include: River Ave. Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church of New Augusta, Friendship Baptist Church of Ellisville, Canaan Baptist Church of Sand Hill, Calvary Baptist Church of Petal, and Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church of Petal. Rev. Boone oversaw and was heavily involved in the construction of Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church where he was Pastor Emeritus.
Rev. Emmett L. Boone was many things throughout his life: Policeman, Preacher, Counselor, Friend, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather. Rev. Boone loved his family. Rev. Boone loved people in general. He was well-known for his kindness, generosity, sincerity, friendly manner, and overall warm and open personality. People say this about others many times, “They would do anything for anyone.” This was never truer with any man than with Rev. Boone.
He never missed an opportunity to celebrate and grieve alongside the members of his family, church and community as they were married, had children, were baptized, celebrated holidays, birthdays and anniversaries, and faced the sickness and loss of their loved ones.
Rev. Boone was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Bonnie Boone; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Boone; four brothers, James Boone, Levoy Boone, Leon Boone, and Travis Boone; three sisters, Annie Grace, Gladys Smith, and Mattie Jay Lyons.
Rev. Boone is survived by his son, James L. Boone (with wife, Dianne W. Boone); one grandson, Jason S. Boone; one granddaughter, Carrie Paige Maxwell (with husband, Matt Maxwell); one great-grandson, Nathan Maxwell; and one great-granddaughter, Grace Maxwell.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m., at Lynn Ray Road Baptist Church of Petal.
