Funeral services for Richard Paul Gunning will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Wentworth Chapel in Carmen. Interment will be in the Carmen City Cemetery under the direction of Wentworth Mortuary, LLC of Carmen.

Richard Paul Gunning, son of the late Laura Iva Farrington, was born May 9, 1932, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and passed away June 19, 2013, in Billings, Montana, at the age of 81 years, 1 month, and 10 days.

Richard joined the United States Marines in November of 1951. He was a machine gunner and was injured in the Korean war, receiving a Purple Heart Medal. Richard was united in marriage to Frances “Susie” Mae Cheney on October 9, 1952. They made their home in Enid.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; one great grandson, Landon; two sisters and four brothers.

He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Marie Otis and husband, Donnie, of Harper, Kansas, and Barbara Jean Simmons and husband, William, of Billings, Montana; six grandchildren, Brian, Brandon, Debra Sue, Christopher, Annette, and Crystal; and nine great grandchildren, Amy, Joslin, Megan, Alexander, Clarice, Madeline, Emily, Chloe, and Christian; other relatives and friends.
