Florence “Flo” Hogan, 85, of Kewanna passed away at 1:45 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester.
Born on January 28, 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Bertram and Margaret (Moshier) Brown.
Florence was raised by her adopted parents, Jacob and Irene Metz. On January 18, 1946 she married John E. “Jack” Hogan. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2007.
Flo had performed in the USO during WWII and had been the first female member of the band, Starlighters. She and her husband, Jack, enjoyed going out dancing and singing karaoke. She also enjoyed bowling.
Florence was a homemaker. She also formerly worked at Switches, Kewanna Metal Specialties and Winamac Coil Spring in Kewanna.
She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Kewanna and a former member of Kewanna United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the former “Harvestairs” performing at the annual Harvest Festival in Kewanna.
She is survived by son, Michael E. Hogan of Kewanna, daughters, Kathleen Dees (Rudy) of Visalia, California, Wendy J. Kelly (Daniel) of West Lafayette and Alice L. White (Darrell) of Winamac, son in law, Joseph Federer of Wolcott, brother, Donald Brown of New Jersey, grandchildren, Johna Bouda, Noah Hogan, John Dees, Kerry “Katy” Nimitz, Jason Federer, Kristen Federer, Sarah Cleary, David White, Stephanie Malchow, Jamie Smith and Wendy Shock and great grandchildren, Brooklynn Dees, Hayley Nimitz, Michael Nimitz, Kaitlyn Malchow, Lucas Malchow, Madison Carmen, Haley Shock and Bella Shock.
She was also preceded in death by daughter and son in law, Janice E. and Ozzie Graham, daughter, Linda K. Federer, brother, Alan Brown, sisters, Violet Mueller and Edna Norris and granddaughter, Mary Beth White. She was also preceded in death by her beloved dog, Missy.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday June 21, 2013 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna with Pastor David Sommers officiating. Burial will be at Citizens IOOF Cemetery in Kewanna.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013 and also one hour before the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kewanna Volunteer Fire Dept. and First Responders and/or Fulton County Humane Society.
