Daniel K. Melzer

U.S. Veteran

Daniel K. Melzer “Milker” (December 25, 1946 – June15, 2013)

Daniel K. Melzer passed away unexpectedly in his home in Fremont on Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was 66 years old.

Danny was born in 1946 on Christmas Day in Neenah, Wisconsin, the first-born son of the late Howard and Dorothy (Bauman) Melzer. After graduating from Neenah High School, he served in the US Army from 1966 to 1969. On December 10, 1983, he married Rhonda Faulks in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the next nine years, they lived on Doty Island in Neenah with their two sons, Cameron and Corey, travelling every weekend to West Bloomfield, to spend time at their “cabin in the woods.” They always looked forward to time spent at this peaceful place and in 1992, they built their dream home a short distance away from it and have lived there ever since.

Danny was a steamfitter by trade and retired on August 23, 2003. He was a member of the Local 400 Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, as well as the National Humane Society, the ASPCA, the National Wildlife Foundation, the American Legion Post 33 and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. In his free time, Danny enjoyed hunting, cutting and splitting wood, woodworking, metal fabrication, gardening and taking his nieces and nephews on tractor rides through the woods.

Danny is survived by his wife Rhonda; sons Cameron (special friend, Stephanie) Melzer, Neenah and Corey Melzer, Waupaca; sisters-in-law Sharon (Jerry) Breen, Appleton and Ruth Melzer, Neenah; nieces Jennifer (David) Knaack, Greenfield; Melissa Fischer, Appleton; nephews Mark (Tammy) Boone, Appleton and Joel (Julie) Boone, Appleton; great nieces and great nephews Courtney (Andy) Peterson, Coleton and Caylah Fischer, Emily and Elijah Knaack, Hailey and Cody Boone and his much loved pets, Moses, Heidi, Naomi and Celine. Dan was preceded in death by his in-laws, Ronald and Gladys Faulks and his younger brother, Robert Melzer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Lewin Funeral Home in Fremont, Wisconsin. Burial, with full military rites, will be at Concordia Cemetery in West Bloomfield. Visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

“Our tomorrow will never come. I hope you know how much I loved you.” – Your “Queen”

“Now you’re up in Heaven, where your eyesight is perfect and you’re fast on the trigger. No more rear shots. I love you, Dad. We will hunt again another time.” – Love, “Ben”

“We didn’t always see eye to eye and at times, I’m sure some people would have thought we hated each other’s guts, but we eventually managed to get past all that and maintain a pretty good friendship from that point on. When I came back from Arizona and was struggling with my divorce, I will always remember how you came and found me on Mom’s bed and told me how you’d struggled with your first divorce. You didn’t always say the right thing, but you always cared enough to try. I’ll also never forget how you got me started on my first dirtbike, which led to my lifelong passion for anything with two wheels and an engine. Though you never rode a streetbike yourself, you always showed an interest in my bikes and even dared to hop on the back with me a time or two. Thank you for everything you did for us for all these years. I love you, Dad.” – Love, “Rooski”

“Perhaps not a star, but an opening in Heaven where your love pours through. We will be remembering and loving you. Rest in much deserved peace, Danny.” – Sharon and Jerry
