O.E. Chambers

Oliver (O.E.) Chambers age 78 of the Buffalo Community, passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. Born in Scott County, Tennessee on September 21, 1934, he was the son of the late Willie and Vada Cross Chambers.

O.E. was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard who served in the Korean War and was honored by his country with a purple heart, the Assistant Director of the Civilian Branch of NASA during the Mercury Program where he worked closely with the original American Astronauts. He was an educator of the Scott County High School, Federal mine inspector for a number of years who then continued his work with the Department of Labor as a safety and training educator, a businessman, and entrepreneur.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother Keith Chambers; sister Sharon Chambers Seeber; father-in-law Buck Lominac.

Survived by his wife of 36 years Martha Lominac Chambers; children Dr. Michael Chambers and wife Amy of Huntington, WV, and Dr. Michelle Chambers of Miami Beach, FL; granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth Chambers; sister Bettye Oharrah of Oneida, TN; brother Javan Chambers and wife Ruth of Williamsburg, Ohio; mother-in-law, June Lominac; nieces Vanessa Sears and Christy Transier; nephews: Scott and Brian Chambers, Frank Seeber, Lattic Lominac, and Jacob Coffey; brother-in-law, Bruce Lominac and wife Joni; sisters-in-law, Kasey Lominac and Shelia Hefflin and husband Anthony. He also leaves many other relatives and friends.

Friends may visit with the Chambers family on Tuesday June 18, 2013 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Anderson officiating. Music will be provided by Allen Martin. Graveside service will on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chambers Cemetery in the Smith Creek Community with full military honors by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
