Edna Nobles Blackburn age 87 of Niceville, FL died June 11, 2013 at her residence. She was born December 10, 1925 in Lakewood, Fl to Oscar and Celia Johnson Nobles. As a young women, she asserted her feminine independence and stalwartness by joining the Marines in WWII. Edna worked hard all her life and believed in the value of hard work. After retiring from the Civil Service, she dutifully worked alongside her husband for nearly 20 years in the physically demanding commercial fishing industry. Nothing was more important to Edna as her family. She cherished the times she had with her daughter and most especially her grandsons Brian and Casey who began calling her "MaMa" and this name continue on, symbolizing her special one-of-a-kind devotion to her great grandchildren as well. Edna's faith in Jesus Christ sustained her as she bravely fought her battle with cancer. She served as an inspiration to all who knew her with her strength and courage. She fought the good fight. She finished the race. She kept the faith. Edna was preceded in death by husband, Thomas Blackburn; father, Oscar Nobles; mother, Celia Johnson Nobles; sisters, Myrtice Minger, Lois Metcalf and Marie Styers; brother, Marcus Nobles.
Edna is survived by daughter, Pamela Prestwood and husband Clarence of Tallassee, Fl 2 grandchildren, Brian Prestwood and wife Gail of Richmond, VA and Casey Prestwood and wife Katherine of Denver, CO 2 great grandchildren, Penelope and Matthew and her beloved Boston Terriers Daisy and Morganne. The family of Edna Blackburn would like to thank Dr Ming, Dr Harvey and Dr Henry of Emerald Coast Oncology and nurses, Nancy and Jane of Comfort Hospice.
Graveside services for Edna Blackburn will be 3PM Sunday June 16, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in Florala with Chaplin Josh Wood officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour before services at Evans Funeral Home.
