Carolyn M. Branstetter

Carolyn May Schultz Branstetter, 84, of Crawfordsville passed away Monday afternoon at home.

As a young woman, she worked as a proofreader at R.R. Donnelley. Later, she had a career in retail beginning with Loeb’s and then managing the Paul Harris store in the Boulevard Mall. She had a second career as volunteer and serving for many years as assistant manager of the Wesley Thrift Shop, operated by the women of the First United Methodist Church. Before going back to work full time, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Born May 20, 1929 she was the daughter of Oscar and Edith Edwards Schultz. She was a 1947 graduate of New Ross High School. She was married to Richard Lee Branstetter on December 29, 1951 by Rev. A.L. Vermillion in Jamestown.

Survivors include husband, Richard Branstetter, Crawfordsville, two daughters, Patircia West (husband: Douglas), Terre Haute and Linda Branstetter, Albuquerque, N.M., two grandchildren, Michelle Teets, Lafayette and Christopher Teets, Indianapolis, two step-grandchildren, Kyle West and Alison West, both in Terre Haute, sister, Jacqueline Crumm, Crawfordsville, sister-in-laws, Joyce Lidikay and Betty Branstetter, both Crawfordsville, brother-in-law, Dwight Vermillion, Sarasota, Florida and sister-in-law, Dixie Schultz, Kansas City, Kansas, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Stanley Schultz and James Schultz.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Burkhart Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday in the funeral home, led by Rev. Gary Lewis. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Darlington.
