Pawel Kowaleszyn died Sunday, May 26, 2013. Born in 1924 in Kanafoste, Poland, Pawel was a Holocaust survivor and escapee. He took refuge with the Allies and eventually enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam in '69, receiving numerous decorations honoring his heroism, meritorious and outstanding service. On the day of his death, it rained heavily. Clouds briefly broke, producing a remarkable rainbow marking the exact moment of his death. He was gentle, noble, and of excellent character.
He is survived by his wife Isolde and his son Peter. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Tahoma National Cemetery.
