Jerry Amweg

U.S. Veteran

Jerry Lee “Monk” Amweg, 65, of Ohio City, was taken to be with Jesus at 6:55 p.m., Sunday at the CHP Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert.

He was born on June 18, 1947, the son of the late Daniel Hamilton and Louella Gwendolyn (Seger) Amweg. On June 3, 2003, he married the former CarieAnn Jo Bellinger who survives.

Other family members include two daughters, Kathy (Pat) Wilhelm of Decatur, IN and Payton Eloise Amweg at home; a son, Daniel (Amanda) Amweg of Grover Hill; two step-daughters, Nicole (Pete) Boaz of Van Wert and Jody Kline; a brother, Jackie L. (Christina) Amweg of Ohio City; three grandchildren, Brett (Tequila) Wagner of Berne, IN, Kasey Wagner of Linn Grove, IN, and Jace Hirschy of Decatur, IN; three step-grandchildren, Breann, Brittney and Bregan Boaz; one great grandson, Zhayne Wagner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosella Krick and Peggy Eileen Miller.

Jerry was a 1965 graduate of Ohio City-Liberty High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Viet Nam from April 1968 to May 1969. He had been employed at Fleetwood in Decatur for 14 years and had been a member of the Ohio City Fire Department and E.M.S. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5803 and the American Legion Post 178 of Van Wert. Jerry enjoyed fishing, arrow head hunting, Indian powwows and loved his many animals.

Services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Cowan & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Simon Young of the New Life Apostolic Church officiating. Interment will follow at Ohio City Woodlawn Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the combined honor guard of the V.F.W. and American Legion of Van Wert.

Preferred memorials are for his daughter, Payton Amweg.
