Ludowici - William "Billy" Wilkinson, 85, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 in the St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah. He was born in Glennville and lived in Long County all of his life. He was a graduate of Ludowici High School where he played basketball and he attended Brewton-Parker and Georgia Southern Colleges. Billy was retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart with 27 years of service where he first worked in Forestry and then as a supervisor in Roads and Grounds. He was a farmer and forester and as part of the anti-drug campaign hosted fishing derbies for kids. He was a charter member of the Long County Chamber of Commerce and was the only male member of the Long County Garden Club. Billy served his country in the National Guard, Unit 101, which was activated for the Korean Conflict in 1947. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ludowici, the Andrew Sunday School Class and served on numerous committees in the church. His son, Bill Wilkinson preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife, Geraldine Blount Wilkinson of Ludowici; daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Jim Niksch of Allenhurst, Lisa Wilkinson of Jesup, and Cindy and Ricky Chambless of Ludowici; grandchildren, Tina Peacock, Brandi Sollosi, Amber Duke, Rick Chambless and Brett Chambless; 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6 at 11:00 A.M. from the Ludowici First Baptist Church with Rev. Stanley Todd officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be private. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Bland, Devon McClelland, Ricky Peacock, Colton Peacock, Tom Sollosi and Clifford Randall.
