James H. “Jim” Swartzell, 83, of Logansport passed away at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
Born on February 20, 1930 in White County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Flora (Abbott) Swartzell.
He was a 1948 Royal Center High School graduate.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.
He retired from Chrysler in Kokomo where he was employed for over 30 years.
Jim was a former member of the American Legion and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his children, Kevin M. Swartzell of Logansport, Kirk D. Swartzell of Logansport, Lisa C. Smith (Ed) of Logansport and Laura R. Benson (Mark) of Thornhope, brothers, Junior Swartzell (Sandy) of Royal Center and Everett Swartzell (Virginia) of Logansport, grandchildren, Joshua Smith, Eli Smith (Karrie), Eric Smith (Shelby), Shana Swartzell, Austin Swartzell, Travis Scott, Keith Benson, Ted Benson and Sarah Benson, great grandchildren, Dante Cearing, Gage Smith, Bode Smith, Delaney Smith, Avery Smith, Bennett Smith and Beau Liebner.
He was also preceded in death by his longtime companion, Helen Maroney, brothers, Marion, Ralph “Gene” and Howard Swartzell and great granddaughter Kiai Smith.
Services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 at Marocco-Rans Funeral Chapel with visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Funeral Celebrant Carla Barker will be officiating.
Burial with military rites will be conducted at Mt. Hope Cemetery Veterans Square.
